The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) strives to provide useful and effective Safety Rest Areas that will enhance driver safety. This is accomplished by designing safe and interesting places for drivers to take a break. Texas was the first state to provide wireless internet access at Safety Rest Areas for use by the public. This free service is provided to entice drivers to make regular stops during long road trips.

The TexTreks welcome page appears when you connect to the wireless internet at each of Texas' Safety Rest Areas and Travel Information Centers. Information on road conditions, weather, statewide events, accommodations and links to official community web sites provides visitors with helpful tools in navigating Texas. The real-time information will assist travelers to make informed decisions before and during travel. If you prefer to use TexTreks from home, please visit: http://www.textreks.com.
